Born in Lomanthang, Nepal, His Eminence Thartse Khen Rinpoche was ordained as a novice monk by His Eminence Chogye Trichen Rinpoche. He completed extensive studies of Buddhist rituals and practice under the direct guidance of His Eminence Luding Khenchen Rinpoche, who conferred full monastic ordination on him. He also received extensive teachings from His Holiness the 41st Sakya Trichen and other great lamas. He completed philosophy studies at Sakya Institute in Puruwala, India; higher studies at Sakya College; and numerous meditation retreats. An exemplar of the Buddha’s teachings, Rinpoche is the spiritual guide of many monks, nuns, and lay students.
