Chandrakirti (circa seventh century) was an Indian scholar of the Madhyamaka or Middle Way school. He is the author of Entering the Middle Way, a treatise that explains the ten stages (Skt. bhumis) of a noble bodhisattva and the level of a fully awakened buddha, with particular focus on explaining the view of emptiness (Skt. shunyata) according to Nagarjuna’s tradition and refuting other philosophical views.

Sojong Vows ~ Prayers to the Buddha & 16 Arhats on Chotrul Duchen

with Khenpo Thupten Gongphel
(Zoom and in person)

Thursday, May 23
7 AM Central Time (Minnesota)
8 AM Eastern / 6 AM Mountain / 5 AM Pacific

Saka Dawa Duchen is one of the four main Buddhist festivals. It commemorates the Buddha’s enlightenment and parinirvana. The merit on this day is multiplied immensely.

Sojong is a practice of healing and purification that includes observing eight precepts for 24 hours and fasting from noon to sunrise the next day.

The puja of paying homage and making offerings to the Buddha and 16 Arhats was composed by the Kashmiri Pandita Shakyashri, a teacher of Sakya Pandita. Joining this puja is an excellent way to bring about auspicious conditions and to pray for the long life of our teachers on this holy day.
